Now and then I get emails where the text spacing is horrible and the rows of text either overlap or
touch. This is one example of redit's new privacy policy.

Some others I don't have to show, are worse. Can I adjust anything on my end?

I opened that link on 3 different web browsers and it looked the same.
The problem is probably the way that web site is written.

It's more curiosity, I get them so very infrequent. Mostly these "changing privacy" notices.

I occasionally see that effect with Win 11.

I don't know what Linux allows, but in the past there has been advice
for those on Windows with sight problems to increase the system's
Settings > Accessibilty > Text size.

I run 135%... but for companion Firefox as browser kill its zoom
slightly to 90%.

Windows 7
Thunderbir 52.9.1

I placed three buttons (plus others) on my menu bar: "Zoom In", "Zoom
Out", and "Reset Zoom". I cannot remember whether these are inherent in
Thunderbird or if they were part of the Toolbar Buttons extension.

When I see a problem such as yours, I do not change my font preferences.
I merely select Zoom Out. The amount of zooming in or our is
controlled by the preference variable toolkit.zoomManager.zoomValues,
with each click of either button progressively advances the amount.

Alternatively, try [View > Zoom > Zoom Out] on the menu bar to shrink
fonts.

There is no word "introductory" at Reddit's privacy policy page at:

https://www.reddit.com/policies/privacy-policy

No idea where the sender was trying to slice out text from an HTML
document.

> Some others I don't have to show, are worse. Can I adjust anything
> on my end?

Your sender tried to copy some text in an HTML document, like a web
page, and paste it into their e-mail. However, pasting from the
rendered version of HTML means you don't know what tags you are
including in the clip. When copying and pasting from an HTML doc,
you'll likely screw up the formatting that was present outside of the
content you selected. You get formatting for your compose window with
the pasted HTML content instead of the web doc's formatting. The result
is you get incomplete HTML code when pasting that mangles the rendering
of what you paste. Very likely the HTML code snippet the sender pasted
into their message lost the HTML formatting codes that allows for
rendering the content.

Is format mangling less severe if you view their message in plain text
instead of trying to render what truncated HTML code they tried to send
you when viewing their message in HTML format?

Since they don't how to copy HTML code to encompass all the formatting
controls trying to have it render in an e-mail client (which is NOT a
web browser) in its HTML view, have them send you a URL to whatever web
doc they want to show you. Then open in a web browser to render
properly.

All of which is why I prefer plain-text.

In September 2021, I did a study of HTML-formatted vs plain-text E-mail.
The average bloat factor for HTML-formatted messages was 15.5 times the
size of the equivalent plain-text content. HTML-formatted messages
contained an average of 10.0 HTML syntax errors per KB of HTML markup.
(That is, E-mail applications too often generate bad HTML that might
appear okay only if the message is viewed on the same brand of
application.)

Your answer seems more logical. I have little issues with other emails etc, just a few odd vendors.
Changing to simple HTML even fixes the spacing.
