Hi,

is it possible, to load a page but just the *.html with Firefox (like
wget or curl)? In menu "View" -> "Page Style" there's the option "No
Style", but it seems to work only /after/ a page (and all CSS!) is
loaded. That would be nice in some cases.

One actual reason is to analyze the traffic. A server returns a complete
other HTML-page with Firefox and curl (although all headers are copied
from Browser Toolbox and cookies are deleted before) and the only
difference I can see until now is, that Firefox loads lots of CSS with
the page at the same time.

The Lynx browser and other character-cell browsers know nothing about
CSS. Wouldn't that work for your traffic analysis needs?

Have you looked at the Network tab in the Browser tools?
F12, select the Network tab in the lower pane, them ctrl-R to reload the
page - I think.

I have a toggle button on my FF52. Very convenient. But
it's an extrension.I don't know if you can get it for FF v. 987,
or whatever they're up to this week.

The one I have is called Disable Style Button by Guillaume-crico.

Hopefully this gets through. I've been having trouble.
On paganini I'm getting posting errors. Error 441. Follow-up
header missing. I haven't changed anything. Are others
getting this? I've never seen it before. AIOE seems to
still be broken, so I don't know what other options I have.

I may just quit Usenet if this keeps up. It seems to be
the writing on the wall. We cranky bunch of oldtimers
are being kicked out of the bar due to closing time. :)

Not a problem, as I'm intending to learn from it how it changes the settings
and cause them to be applied instantly.

Perhaps I will install it though, as disabeling CSS is something I regulary
do. On the other hand, selecting "view" -> "Page style" -> "no style" isn't
a lot of work.

Yup. Its website (news.aioe.net) is gone too (shows a parking page).

I've switched to ethernal september (www.eternal-september.org) myself.
Thought it would be harder to get an account, but was pleasantly surprised
by how easy (and fast) it went.

Meanwhile, after once again looking at the timing, I'm not sure, that
loading no CSS will make the difference. What else could it be? Maybe you

I think it would be a good idea to post a link to a webpage you noticed that
difference between FF and curl with.

Mind you, other than checking the request header (which you said you made
sure is the same in both cases) the webserver has no way to figure out if
you are going to load resources mentioned in the webpage or not.

IOW, both retrieved HTML documents /should/ have the same contents. Have
you checked ?

| It's a toggle button on the toolbar. When you click it,
it toggles between applying CSS or leaving it out. It's
an extension for Firefox. I don't know what you mean
by "actual browsers". If it's toggled on (no CSS) then
the next page you load will not load the CSS.

I'm using it in FF52 on XP. I don't know whether the
version online can be installed in later FF versions. Maybe.
Or maybe someone has written a new one. I've never
figured that out because I don't use Win7/10 often enough
to care.
