The only options I get when I hit Edit/ Find/ Search Messages, are
Subject, From, Date, Status. These are in the headers, so I presume
that's due to me holding headers only locally.
How can I include message content?

Ed

Are you talking about mail or news?

I don't think there's any way you can search body text on news.

If using IMAP, wouldn't configuring Tbird to store offline bring down
the messages, so you could locally search on them in Tbird? I'm
assuming this is for an IMAP account defined in Tbird. See:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization

You might want to choose to enable the following sync options:
- Keep messages for this account on this computer.
- Synchronize all messages regardless of age.

It works with news, but not mail.
I think the explanation for that is obvious; news downloads the bodies,
mail doesn't.

Yes, there is, you need to download all the news messages locally:
"Select this newsgroup for offline use".

OK, I don't normally do that, but just tried it for this group.
When I go into Edit/Find/Search Messages
there still isn't the option of "body" in the droplist of fields to
search, like there is for email

There is when you have an offline copy: https://imgur.com/a/SfgbjOE
The quick filter in the body also works in that case.

It works on both, if you cache full emails or posts.

I had to untick "search on server", thanks.
