in TB (ThunderBird) -- Why is the [Follwup] button sometimes missing???

within TB (ThunderBird),
when i select a thread, a Right-pane opens up (showing the messages in
the thread), and

sometimes only two Buttons are shown (Archive, Delete)
--- other times, more Buttons are shown including [Followup]

Why is the [Follwup] button sometimes missing ???

Maybe the particular group is read only.

Maybe you have selected several messages.

Upload a screenshot to some sharing site, post a link.

How to get the [Followup] button...

If you select a thread containing only one message, the [Followup]
button will show.

If you select a thread containing more than one message, the thread will
have a '>' to the left of it. Click that '>' to expand the thread, then
select a message in the expanded thread. Now the [Followup] button will
show.

The short answer is that "Followup" means followup to a single message,
not followup to an entire thread containing more than one message.

You may wish to look at disabling the setting
mail.operate_on_msgs_in_collapsed_threads
in the config editor
That makes it so clicking on a collapsed thread selects just the first
message in that thread, rather than selecting every message in the thread.
