I have an XB7 (Arris TG4482A) Xfinity Gateway. Will an Ooma VOIP box work
with this gateway, or will only Xfinity VOIP plans work?

I don't see why not. I have an Obi 200 and an Obi 202, both of which are
ATAs, and Grandstream conference phone that does SIP on six lines.

VoIP is great. I spend $100 to $125 a year.

Comcast Digital Voice uses reserved audio channels and doesn't share
bandwidth with data channels. That's its only advantage. Typically it's
expensive but you might get a deal with a triple play. It uses a different
protocol that SIP.

Just a follow up...

The reason I was looking at VOIP is because I have a vacation home were
the AT&T mobile signal is unusable, but I do have the Xfinity XB7
Gateway, that has wifi.

When in the vacation home, I have no cell service that's usable.

I decided to set my phone to wifi calling, and it worked perfectly. The
audio is ABSOLUTELY the BEST I've ever had. Better than mobile.

No need for VOIP service or Xfinity Voice.
