A bane of large train station buildings has been the difficulty of making
announcements intelligable. Echos are bad.

They've been working on this problem since the 1950s. This article
is interesting in a pioneering use of hi-fi and small speakers that became
popular years later.

obcomp: none that I can see. But like computers good engineering can
make a big difference for the end user. Some stations or other large
spaces have excellent speakers, even years ago, others are crap even today.
