Does anyone here have experience with the CTC Bridge? I have a client that has some features configured that we need to modify, and they have very little expertise. And neither do I. Thanks in advance.

I have a little bit of quite old experience with it, and I have a copy
of the Java-based version, but am happy to try and assist.

I assume they are using one of the network versions rather than
poll-select -- I only raise this because you never know what kind of old
stuff is still out there.

Is their issue communications-based or presentation-based (forms mode,
control character options, that sort of thing)?

Yes Paul. Network version. They are utilizing a feature in the tool that does screen scraping on a group of stations. They moved some new stations onto the system that should be doing the screen scraping, and they aren't working. I'm just looking for some direction.

This sounds like some sort of add-on to the standard terminal emulator
product, or perhaps some feature in Core's MultiBridge server product.
I'm not familiar with it. The first step probably is to figure out
exactly what they have. It might be best to move this conversation to
email -- paul dot kimpel atsign digm dot com.

Thank you Scott for your reply!

I thought it was possible to submit attachments because:
"Search conversations within comp.sys.unisys..."
has tick box: "Has an attachment".

I knew somebody who helped design the D-machine, unfortunately he died about 20 years ago.
(nice guy, it was a loss).

I believe it was originally built for a defense contract (or two) and was later adopted
by the B800/B900 (aka. Small System) group. I think some/all of the Small System
development was located in Boca Raton, FL at one time (at least, some other co-workers
came from there when they closed down SS development).

I am not sure exactly what you are proposing here, nor what the
advantages of it are. See below for specifics.

This sounds like some sort of add-on to the standard terminal emulator
product, or perhaps some feature in Core's MultiBridge server product.
I'm not familiar with it. The first step probably is to figure out
exactly what they have. It might be best to move this conversation to

There's a capitalization problem in the link above. The correct link is:

http://bitsavers.org/pdf/burroughs/Military/D_Machine/

I worked for Burroughs in the Paoli (Philadelphia) area during the early
'70s, and certainly heard about the D and Mini-D machines, but never
knew much about them. I believe the full D machine was used in the
B700/800/900, and knew that it was a very soft architecture, but that's
about it. I have reached out to some colleagues from that time and we'll
see what they have to say.

I forgot to mention, the B800/B900 claim to fame was that it changed its in=
struction
set depending on what programming language you used. So, there was a Fortr=
an
instruction set, and a Cobol instruction set, etc.

Well, inspection of SYS$*DATA$ on the Operating System Development
home system shows, for IPF, the file SYS$LIB$*UA$TUTORIAL$.

I have no idea how IPF was/is structured, either then or now.
