Hi all,
I'm running v115.6.0 and I'm wondering if there is a way to hover the
mouse pointer over a message in the in-box and have it display the full
Subject line without have to click on it?

I seem to remember that this was doable in releases prior to v115.

Any help would be appreciated.

Richard

It works for me to just hover over the subject. I think the message
list pane might need to have the focus in order for this to work.

For me, the message in question *does* have to be selected (i.e.
clicked) and then you have to hover (and linger) over the subject for
the tooltip to display, which sort of makes it not worthwhile really?

For me on Win 11 with TB 115.6.0, hovering over *any* email message
subject brings up the full title in a floating box regardless of
whether the full version is already visible or truncated because of
extra length... but it takes a second or so to trigger. I don't have
to click/bring it into focus.

I'm running Classic View/Folder Pane as layout.

For me any message can be selected and then the tooltip pops up if I
hover over any message in the list.

If all else fails you can right-click and print just to see all the header, then cancel.

I'm assuming the preview pane is hidden or you are trying not to load the message. Not sure if print 'loads' the
message or just downloads it to temp for printing.

I'm also using classic 3-pane, but definitely the tooltip only activates
for the currently highlighted message.

Actually, that's not quite right ... the body for the message has to
have been loaded from the server, then it will display regardless of
whether it's selected or not, but for an unread message there's no tooltip.

And on further testing... <g>... for me, *one* message header in the
currently displayed folder has to be in focus for the tooltip to
appear for any/all entries. Should I simply have the focus on the
Folder Pane, hovering won't trigger the tooltip with full subject of
any item.

That's interesting. I get the tooltip even for unread messages.

Something weird is happening with whatever process generates that
tooltip.

After closing my TB accidentally, once re-started to refused to *show*
those headers no matter what combination of folder focus/opening msg
yadda yadda I attempted... then while fiddling and not figuring, the
full header would suddenly appear for *most* messages picked at
random.

Trying to retrace my testing, closing/opening TB caused the same
blackout till whatever triggers the function switched in again, but I
can't pinpoint what does it.

On my Windows 8.1, after newly starting TB no titles show a popup when
hovered over. However, if I click on a few, the ones I've clicked then
show on hover. If I exit and restart TB, no popups are remembered from
the previous session.

Something is really strange going on here. I don't even have to click
on other messages in the list to have the tooltip appear. I just have
to over over the subject.

I do have to have the message list in focus. I usually just have to
click on one message for the tool tip to appear for all messages.

keep trying there's a lot of $RANDOM going on
e.g. with a mixture of read/unread messages, by clicking around the
message list and the group list, by hovering around, it seems to get
into "ruts" of different behaviour

I see the same thing here. Sometimes it doesn't work and sometimes it does.

Weird. It was working back home on my desktop machine, but not on my
laptop which I updated before travelling.

As BillH and I have observed, there's an unknown factor making the
tooltip appear to randomly work or fail ...
