Do you ever use anything other than Profile1 (which is the default)

if no, then you can trim it down to just

[Profile1]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=u5lt5hb4.default
Default=1

[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1
Version=2

also (backup then) delete the folders
biju9tjb.default-default
d33shmoz.default
h5xe5swr.default-release

it should tell which one you're using you from help/troubleshooting info
and then the about:profiles link

Nothing is junk.

You have to decide yourself which profiles you do not use, and delete
them using the profile manager — not manually!

Yes, the date on the directories is an indication.

See menu->help->troubleshooting see the profile folder, about the 6th down.
Open it up and see what the folder name is, and you can see then in profiles.ini which name that profile is. You need
the name, not the number.

Then run thunderbird -P
You can then delete anything but the profile with that name.

Backup the entire thunderbird folder just in case first.

Do a "du -s" on each profile folder.

Some will be relatively small.

Maybe one (your currently selected one) will be bigger.

You can correlate the size info, with what Andy is suggesting.

Checking the dates in some of them, will tell you when they
were last accessed. Or, if they were ever accessed at all.
