What is the correct Risc OS filetype for an XLSX file.

I've been emailing these via Risc OS and people have been unable to open
them. Apparently, this is because Risc OS has been adding an additional
extension. I hope that by setting the filetype correctly in Risc OS before
sending this will cease to happen.

I tried to answer this a couple of days ago but I couldn't post from
Pluto - hence Thunderbird.

If you want the file to be immediately opened by a Windows user, then it
should arrive there as filename.xlsx. That means it should leave your
Pluto as filename.xlsx.

If you ensure that Pluto is using PC MIME and not RISCOS MIME, then
attaching it as filename.xlsx should ensure that it arrives without any
RISC OS appendage.

I have used this method when sending PDF files (to other systems) which
are recognised as 'standard' files when passing through the mail system.

I hope this helps and also that I'm not wrong!

John

It is indeed and when I look that is what Risc OS is using.

Checking the outgoing queue, I am seeing "Filename.xlsx,A7F"

If I edit, removing the ",A7F and then send, I get no complaints from the
addressee.

I have been creating these on the dark side, moving into a common folder,
and then attaching to a message before sending.

What RISC OS sees is not the point.

That is what will be sent by Pluto If you have selected MIME/RO.

In every Write Mail or News window there is an icon top rightish which
shows the setting - probably MIME/RO for Mail. Click on it to see the
menu of possibilities, which includes MIME/PC, and use Save if you
want to set it as the default for future. Please see Help -> Written
-> Mail and News for details of the Attachments encoding.
