Yes, you will have to plan ahead for those times you need full
capacity. OTOH, if you keep charging while 100% full, in a year or two,
the capacity will be lower than it would be if you stopped at say 80%.

Dell also has a power profile like that. It claims to keep the battery
charged between 50-100%, but when I check it's usually around 70-75%.

Hmm ... my vintage 2010 laptop is a Dell, and one of the available
power plans is called Dell(*), but it doesn't say anything about a
particular level of battery charge.

Maybe Dell introduced that power profile after my laptop was
manufactured?

(*) It's possible I created that plan myself, and just picked the
name Dell. I set up power plans years ago, and can't remember details
of what I did.

The Dell Inspiron 7520 laptop in front of me was purchased in February
2013, so it's probably a 2012 model. Above, I think I misspoke when I
called it a power profile. Instead, it's in Dell's "Battery Meter" app and
I can select either Longevity Mode, where the battery charges between 88%
to 100%, or Desktop Mode, where the battery charges between 50% to 100%. I
use the Desktop Mode, which is intended for laptops that are always
connected to Mains power..

When I go look at the various power profiles, which are completely separate
from the Battery Meter" app, I don't see any references to these partial
charge characteristics.
