As Betterbird is built on the latest TB, I hope I can get a clue here.

I downloaded the latest and greatest version of BB in German. When I ran
it, strangely enough the German vocabulary was missing, so I just
installed the German vocabulary that I use for Firefox and it worked ok.
So I also installed the British English and the Italian vocabulary.

But BB language spelling check defaults on US-English.

Does anybody know how to eradicate this vocabulary or do I have to live
with.

In my previous Thunderbird installation (112) I didn't have this problem.

For the skin you have to download the German skin:

https://www.betterbird.eu/downloads/get.php?os=all&lang=de&version=release

IIRC the spellschecker has to be downloaded as well. Set the skin to
German and I think the spellchecker will set to German as default.

That's what I did:

betterbird-115.4.2-bb17.de.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2

But it still defaults to en_US. Previous version of BB didn't do that. I
hope it's a fluke.

Let's get this clear:
There are language packs and dictionaries for spell checking.

A language pack translates the user interface into a different language,
Jörg L calls them "skin". TB language packs don't work in BB since they
are missing all the additional BB strings.

BB language packs "work" in TB with surprising results: TB calls itself BB.

Dictionaries are just add-ons, you can install whatever you want. You
should configure composing using the dictionary or dictionaries you
want. I usually use English at German at the same time.

Thanks Jörg, but I would like to completely eradicate the US-EN
dictionary and I am not able to.
