The information may be a little more sparse than you want, but as with
most Linux applications, running "seamonkey --help" will get you the
command-line syntax with all the available switches. Unlike Windows, the
seamonkey binary gets installed in /usr/bin, which is included in $PATH.

It may not match the format I expected.
But can't conceive of a more exact conformance to "FORMAL definition" ;!
Besides, it explicitly solves my problem.

You could also read its manpage with "man seamonkey". However, I'm not
sure what you mean by "formal". "man $program" and "$program --help" are
the usual ways of figuring out how to invoke a program.

In Debian the response is "No manual entry for seamonkey".

Essentially, resembling a manpage. <GRIN>

I avoid using the awkwardly cumbersome "man" command.
Instead, being a Debian user, I find https://manpages.debian.org/ much
more user friendly.

As https://www.seamonkey-project.org/ has a link titled "Documentation
and Help", I expected to find the answer there.

There isn't a Seamonkey package in the debian repository, so you
probably installed it manually. But the bug I referred to suggests it is
wrong anyway. (It refers to "command line option page" without saying
what/where that is.)

This doesn't seem unreasonable, but to avoid the need to update the site
automatically on a new release, what should be there is an instruction
to run `seamonkey --help` for an explanation of the command-line options.

This <https://udn.realityripple.com/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options>
might have been accurate but is now historical. Nonetheless it's
potentially a starting point if someone would take on the job of
maintaining a page that could be linked in the SM website.

Agreed.
I was thinking of modifying

4. Change to the seamonkey directory (cd seamonkey).
5. Run SeaMonkey with the following command:
./seamonkey
or to see launch options
./seamonkey --help

QUESTION:
Is there an equivalent option for Windows and/or macOS?

Probably. Interestingly, on OS/2 (SM 2.42.9esr) seamonkey -help or
seamonkey -h results in a VIO window (terminal window) with the title
"Completed: SeaMonkey" showing the help, it is somewhat broken now as it
only shows the last 24 lines of the 31 or so lines of help.
Seamonkey --help shows nothing unless stdout/stderr is redirected, so
"seamonkey --help | less" works fine, or "seamonkey --help 2>&1 | tee
seamonkey.hlp" will both show the help and redirect to the output to
seamonkey.hlp.
This is due to SeaMonkey being a Presentation Manager (graphical
frontend) app. I'd guess Windows is similar.

Actually only stdout needs redirecting, "seamonkey --help > seamonkey.hlp"
So many programs print help to stderr instead of stdout that by habit I
redirect both. To me that seems broken as showing help is not an error.

In Linux, it may not be necessary, but some may depend on how you've
done your installation. In Ubuntu and Mint, where I do my installations
through ubuntuzilla, the Seamonkey binary gets located in /usr/bin,
which is part of $PATH. Thus, from a command prompt, there's no need to
do anything with a cd to get to the proper folder, nor of requesting the
binary from the current working directory. YMMV if you're doing your
install from your distro's repository or getting installing directly
from a downloaded tarball.

I don't believe that there is a man page for Linux distros -- the best
you're going to be able to do without web searching is seamonkey --help.

In Windows, the process is pretty much the same, although the normal
installation path is a little deeper and not normally included in %PATH%
C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe (and if you're running a
32-bit version, then "Program Files" becomes "Program Files (x86)".
Those are the default locations, and the installer does provide an
option to choose your own installation location.

Although I've not done so on a working machine, I have had multiple
installations of Seamonkey on a virtual machine, where I have had
multiple downloads from http://wg9s.com/, where I installed 2.53's
seamonkey.exe in C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey 2.53 and 2.57 seamonkey.exe
in C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey 2.57. I found that workable, as long as
each version has a dedicated profile. To ensure that I didn't
accidentally mix profiles, I set desktop shortcuts to call seamonkey
with -P, and specifying the appropriate profile. Thus, clicking on a
shortcut named "Seamonkey 2.53 pre-release" launches 2.53 with the
profile I use with 2.53, and "Seamonkey 2.57 pre-release" does the same
with 2.57.

I believe the same is should be possible with Linux, whether you do
things from a command line (or a saved shell script) or a defined shortcut.

In MacOS, the process also essentially similar, it's just that the
architecture buries the executable binaries somewhere in the
/Applications folder more deeply. I'm not super-fluent with how that
works, and if I need something from a command line, I always have to do
a little poking (or use of find) to locate
/Applications/SeaMonkey.app/Contents/MacOS/seamonkey (case-sensitive).
But from there, "seamonkey --help" works the same way as with Linux.

The place where I'm most likely to want a command line is if I need to
to get to the Profile Manager (when it's not set to open when Seamonkey
launches). There are other ways of getting there. Seamonkey has "Tools
-> Switch Profile" (which Firefox and Thunderbird don't have), but it's
also possible to create/switch profiles via about:profiles. And if it's
only making the Profile Manager launch, I can also edit the profiles.ini
file and make sure that StartWithLastProfile in the [General] section is
set to 0.

You should add --no-remote to the arguments so both SeaMonkey's can run
without using the wrong profile, along with the correct working directoy

There is one, but it might not get installed in some distros.
