I have no thoughts on your question per se. However, I'm curious how you
were able to attach a file to your message and post it to an all text
group? (Emphasis on the word "attach".)

on Solani - not just the attachment. Ray doesn't normally allow
attachments from what I remember.

I asked on eternal-september.support why it got through on E-S, and Ray
replied "Cleanfeed (latest version from Steve Crook's git repository)
doesn't seem to handle Content-Disposition: attachment properly."

He's doing a lot of work on filtering, and some of the
stuff likely hasn't been put back yet.

If you tell him something has broken loose, if he is available,
he fixes it fairly quickly.

Usually, the filter policies, match group charters. He has a
small number of binary groups, which would require attachments,
and that would be an example of where an attachment would be accepted.
There is some sort of size limit on attachments, and there would be
an anti-movie filter on there as well. (You can't run services
like this, without armor-plating.)

Even Howard, the lookup server, needed to have policy changes to handle
abuse. Some movie-people tried to use it as an all-you-can-eat movie
server. This forced the Howard operator to "truncate" long posts, ruining
the integrity of the service. At the end of a long message, the
Howard server will say "truncated" to mark the fact the end of the
message is missing (on purpose).

I'm not an E-S user, I just keep half an ear open, he seems to have
enough users providing him feedback, including those who want the
filtering to precisely match what *they* think should be filtered, not
just the obvious spam.

I thought it was good of him to reverse his decision to shut it down a
few years ago, and indeed to reimplement it, to keep it going. I hadn't
noticed any such "truncated" articles, but can see it must be necessary.
