I've lately upgraded my FreeBSD and had problems
re-importing Seamonkey 2.53.14 from backup.

Since FreeBSD removed Seamonkey from the ports collection
just before 2.49.5 I need a source for something executable
and a way for it to accept my profile/history.

What exists?
I gather 2.53.18.1 is now to be preferred but
should be compatible with old tabs/logins/etc?

If you have a 2.49.x profile and install a 2.53.x Seamonkey, the first
time you execute it parts of your profile are updated to be compatible
with the new level. This is a one-way process, falling back to the
older level means that those parts are now invalid and will be
re-initialised.
That is the reason you are told to take a backup of your profile before
migrating. If you have a master password, I believe you are told to
reset it before moving to the new level.
My profile has been in use for a very long time now - way before 2.49.x
came along. I can't remember any loss of data across those years.

I have been using 2.53.14 for a while and right now can't cleanly move
the executable and the user profile over from backup.
(I have a .mozilla subdirectory in my home directory that includes
seamonkey and firefox materials).

I am hoping a Seamonkey 2.53.18 install would be able to read the user info,
but a new Firefox 124 install failed to launch when the .mozilla
directory tree was in my home directory.

Moving from 2.53.14 to 2.53.18 (or .18.1) should be trivial, but I know
very little about any of the BSDs.
My .mozilla directory also contains Seamonkey and Firefox (115.8.0 ESR)
profiles, a second machine has the same Seamonkey level along with
Firefox 124 (just installed) and both are running cleanly.

If you are looking for an old version of a SeaMonkey executable, try
<https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/>. I see versions 1.0.1
through 2.53.18 there (but NOT 2.53.18.1).

Demonstrators worldwide are demanding that Israel stop
fighting in Gaza. Why does it seem that no one is demanding
that Hamas stop fighting? And where are the demonstrations
against Russia fighting in the Ukraine.

The problem is in the header, "for BSD".
