VMDK to VHD tutorial by Skybuck Flying created on 2 october 2023:

Step 1. Download qemu-img

https://cloudbase.it/qemu-img-windows/

Step 2. Extract to something sensible (folder):

G:\Tools\QEMU Virtual Disk Image Converter

Step 3. Change to directory where qemu installed:

cd G:\Tools\QEMU Virtual Disk Image Converter

Step 4. Execute conversion command, replace paths as necessary:

Short example:

qemu-img.exe convert source.vmdk -O vhdx -o subformat=dynamic output.vhdx

Long example:

qemu-img.exe convert "D:\Virtual Machines\Windows 11 (VM 4, Official, RAD Studio 11 Alexandria, Windows 11 Updated, Reactivated)\Windows 11 x64.vmdk" -O vhdx -o subformat=dynamic "G:\Virtual Machines\Windows 11 (VM 4, Official, RAD Studio 11 Alexandria, Windows 11 Updated, Reactivated, Converted to VHDX)\Windows 11 x64.vhdx"

16 GB vhdx created very fast...

Doesn't seem mounteable... strange.

What a lot of crap... seems to have just copied the file but all is empty, windows 11 still can't mount it...

Inspected it with my own tool, seem empty.

Weird stuff.

This is supposed to be virtualization ?! Big fucking joke !
