On sites linking to their appropriate address with "mailto:" tag,
SeaMonkey enters the email address I was using when I originally
installed SeaMonkey.

That address is no longer valid. That _account_ still exists in the
Mail&Newsgroup menu as there are years of valuable messages stored.

I created a _new_ account for my preferred address.
How do I get SeaMonkey to use that address in the "From:" field of
outgoing emails?

TIA

Which one is the default account? (i.e. which one is underlined in the
left side of Edit -> Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings)

If it's not the new account, try setting that as the default one, using
the "Set as Default" button under the tree.

(Or do you need the old one to be the default?)

Ah!! Thank you. I was in a similar situation. Now, I wonder if the old
Default Account will appear further down the lists of accounts! (I think
I had previously changed it from Account 1 to Account 11 [I think], so
it would drip down the list.)

Nope! Looks like I made it Account 2 (rather than my guess of Account 11)

Or will Mail Accounts ALWAYS appear before other accounts, even the
"Local Folders" Account??

More investigation required. ;-)

In the mail client, the handling of "new message" is where the account
used is the one for the container that you're viewing.

However, if you're viewing a container that doesn't have an account
associated with it, then the default account is used. That's primarily
Local Folders, but if you're using the mail client for RSS feeds, it
applies there, too.

Thus, if you're viewing something from the browser, there's no account
associated there, and clicking on a link with mailto: will also use the
default account.
