I don't want to get into yet another dispute about which is best, PLA or
ABS except to say that in the 5 years I've had a printer I've never felt
the need to stop using PLA (which your printer will come with). It's the
cheapest (<£15 a kilo), easiest to print and more than tough enough.

Times have changed but I bought a kit (I enjoy building kits and it
helps to understand what's going on) for just under £100 including
postage. I bought the Tronxy version of this

http://tinyurl.com/4m34d7cm

It's based on an open source design (both hardware and firmware) and if
you use the PI software from OctoPrint.org (also open source) it's
equivalent to Klipper which is an unknown quantity to me.

Another source of dispute is whether metal frames are better than
plastic. My plastic frame has been admirable. Much more important is
that the printer should rest on a solid, level bench/table that doesn't
shake.

They are. That’s what desktop files allow.

One of my Italian father's sayings. Probably goes back centuries.

The configurations were all messed up after trying out all kinds of
things. I couldn't make it work at the same time. I solved it by
installing the pihole on a separate pi zero and managed to get
Synchronet working on the 3B.
And then I decided Synchronet wasn't what I needed and uninstalled it.
That's how it goes I guess.
I think I will try to get Enigma1/2 working next.
