Stuff not working.

Easy ? one first. How do I rename a printer on Devices and Printers >
printer shows as copy 2 and copy 3 and i want to name Printer USB and
Printer IP.

now for the real problems

I have booted my desktop.

printer1 Samsung 2020 on usb. docs in queue. will not print, resume etc !

printer 2 HP Pro 9010 on usb and IP. HP Pro printer toll ask which and
I choose usb but it fails to connect. until I run print page then it
does print. suspect tool find IP route and uses that. Stupid HP tool.

I have printers on a usb splitter but it seems ok per its lights.

how do i test the usb splitter box ?

plugged and unplugged usb to no avail.

Some usb testing tool please or whatever to do to troubleshoot.

suggestions please. I need to print on Samsung 2020.

There's a GUI way and a script way here.

A USB switch, looks like this.

printer printer
| |
| |
/ \
Host1 Host2 Host1 Host2

Host1 Host2
Device Device
Manager Manager
shows shows
printer printer

It's up to the printer to decide what to do if
stimuli arrive on USB and over Wifi at the same time.
The user manual may address that.

There are too many variables to write an answer about
what to do next.

As far as testing, plug the printer into each
host directly for a test and verify a desired
result happens. If inserting the USB switch back
into the picture gives functional failure,
then we have to look more closely at the switch
to explain why it is not working.

if the printers need AC power, make sure they're plugged
in, and the status lights do stuff.

Each host is a potential power source, for bus
powered items. The printer should notice VBUS becomes
available, when the switch is pointed its way. The printer
probably does not react to that, until the host starts
trying to establish connection end-points. If an end-point
forms (via the USB driver), then Uwe's utility can be
used to view the config-space information from the printer.
Not that this is important, but besides doing print jobs,
this would be a step before trying a print job. Seeing
the config space, means at least the host in question,
"has access to it".
