Skimming through I just noticed this closed BZ
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1273222

>1273222 - Stop building and deploying the DOM Inspector extension with
SeaMonkey 2.57

Currently the Fx webtools are only available in the browser context and
not in mail/news. DOM Inspector is needed to allow some RSS feeds to be
read in mail/news without opening a new browser tab, eg when the site
uses an obnoxious cookie or noscript popup. In the browser with NoScript
such popups can be removed with left-click+Del, but that closes the
message window in mail/news.

Supposing that releases based on 2.57 should become the norm and that
the Fx tools aren't already available in 2.57 mail/news, one or more of
these will be needed
- offer a DOMi add-on download, easily accessible, like lang packs, or
- make the Fx tools available in mail/news, or
- add a Reader mode (would be good anyway), or
- unbind the Del key action in mail/news when left-button is pressed
(also good anyway), or
- revert 1273222.

2.57 is dead. 2.53 has suprpassed it in stablility and functionality. Still
missing needed pieces are backported as fast as possible. 2.53 still bundles
DOMi and no plans to stop this. If we ever catch up with central it will be
removed there but you can guess how likely this is in the near future...

Wow, a real-life instance of that old quip: 2.53 is a great
improvement on its successors. (I'm running 2.53.18 beta 1 pre -
it works a bit better than 2.53.17 and has given me no trouble.)
