I never finished the last scenario in the Terran campaign, and I'm going
back to make things right. I just finished Norad II, which is the
scenario where General Duke is downed in a Zerg infested world. It was
more difficult than I remembered. I built the Armory ASAP and hooked up
armor and guns for vehicles. The real task was waiting for those
upgrades before beginning the attack with a couple Goliath platoons.
This is not necessarily intuitive because the scene is hurry and rescue him.

I was worried that it seemed difficult because I was becoming inept in
some way. I made about eight attempts before winning this scenario.
What was good is by the last attempt I was moving my squads with ease,
using ctrl-# and 1-9 to call them up. Also clicking on good places on
the map. I'd say I was just rusty, not addlepated. People who talk
about losing their facilities as they get older should shut their
fornicating mouths. They portray it as an everyday thing, while the
average America sees 17% or less in expectation. A good reason to carry
a firearm. "Shut your fornicating mouth or I'll shut it for you". With
the radio on.

Warcraft and Starcraft involve a great deal of racing against the clock.
If you're not fast enough the computer opponent will take you out. I
caught up to episode 10, the one I had trouble with before. Now I'm
making minor errors that result in catastrophic disaster. I think
Blizzard threw everything into this scenario to make it a tough cookie.

My plan is to go through some of the earlier scenarios twice (or more)
and also open up the zerg and protoss stories. It's been 20 years, I
don't think it's going to spoil me.

I'm also playing Warcraft II. I've learned some stuff from it, like how
to make an assault. The creatures should not just rush in to meet the
enemy, it's nice to set up some support catapults to make the enemy come
to you.

I am attempting to solve this. I didn't have enough time or patience to
complete these back when they were new.

It was back at the time of graduate school. I completed Might & Magic 5
and Wizardry 6 during that time. I've long since lost my Wizardry 6
save, crucial to getting going in Wizardry 7. Having a go at W6 again,
and am up and running with level 4 characters. Worried about my mage
who only has 12 hit points.

I have a new game in W7 for posterity. My characters are level 9. It's
just listless though, don't know where to go. The battles are getting
tough. I figure I'll finish W6 and port my save to W7. I don't want to
waste more time playing W7 from a new start. W6 save gets you higher
level characters and the nice items you were carrying at the end.

I completed SC I which I really liked (I don't like playing against
others though.) I also completed WC I & II. I really liked WC I, but
not so much II.

I never completed SC II, I remember there was some missions where you
played a single figure, so it wasn't really an rts at that point, and I
couldn't get past one of those.

Warcraft (the original) was interesting because it was fairly novel at
the time; the RTS genre was still being hammered out and - while I
much preferred slower-paced 4X strategy, the faster pace of "Warcraft"
- and its excellent production values - made it an interesting
diversion. "Warcraft II", on the other hand, bored me to tears, and I
struggled to finish its campaigns.

I had more fun with "Warcraft III", although the shift to 3D did the
game no favors, and its storyline started becoming a bit too
pretentious. Still, it had some neat twists and the mechanics were
becoming more polished. I quite enjoyed "Frozen Throne", because it
played a lot like a CRPG.

Both "Starcraft" I and II were just dull more-of-the-same RTS for me,
though. Like I've said, I've never entirely warmed up to RTS games, so
I can't really appreciate the subtleties of the supposedly
perfectly-balanced gameplay mechanics that make it such a fan
favorite. My usual tactic is to turtle up until I can create a huge
army and then loop all the soldiers and right-click the bad-guy's base
until it blows up. The intricacies of the AI and manipulating the
mechanics aren't something I focus on (I make awesome looking bases,
though ;-). So I can't really judge the game on the strength of its
gameplay compared to all the other RTS games on the market.

Which just left me to base my opinion on the things like the game's
production values (average), story and characters (sophomoric and
one-note, lacking originality), and map design (visually unappealing).
"Starcraft II", which focused even more on appealing to
click-per-second RTS fetishists, was even less exciting to me. It's
not that I think either game were poor, but I was definitely not the
intended audience, and I don't remember either of them too fondly.
They were profoundly average in my eyes.

YMMV.
