I remember playing around with something like this (albeit less
sophisticated) back in the late 90s/early 2000s. I most remember at
how limited it was, and that it would probably be easier to program a
game from scratch than to try to wrestle the program into going beyond
those limits. It just didn't seem worth the effort to use one of those
unless you specifically wanted to make exactly the style of game the
editor was designed for.

Which... I didn't, since they tended to be made for JRPG style RPGs.

This one seems similar although with a nicer presentation, and
probably more powerful scripting allowing you to escape its
limitations. Or so I assume. I haven't used it. ;-)

I don't suspect this will get any use, but sure, I'll grab it. It's
not /really/ a game so I don't think it counts towards The Number,
but free is always difficult to resist.

it mostly comes down to assets I guess, does not change the perspective
which is fixed to jrpgs aka forward top down, which I never liked.
But hey this perspective was cheap and did fit perfectly to a 90 degrees
movement of early console controllers!
