"Skyrim" is one of those games I keep wanting to get back into. I
spent 500+ hours in the game last time I engaged with it, and even
after all that I didn't feel I'd come close to seeing all it had to
offer.

Except... the base game by itself is a bit lackluster; it only really
shines with mods. And I honestly just don't have the energy to deal
with all the issues and time required to download, install, and
configure all the many mods I am interested in. "Skyrim" on its own is
a finicky, buggy mess; saddling it with fifty or a hundred third-party
add-ons doesn't make it any more stable. And I really don't want to
deal with any of that right now.

But maybe one day...

If you played the 32-bit version way back when, I'm not surprised that's your
impression--it was mine too. However the 64-bit version is much more stable--
even with a couple of hundred mods.

Reminds me of Daggerfall Unity. The game by itself is not enough for
me. I need a bunch of mods to go with it to enhance various parts of
the graphics and then I need more mods to tweak the gameplay to my
preferences.

I am sure it is worse with Skyrim but I feel your pain.

Hehe, no. I actually never even finished Skyrim, I got to the dragon
at the end and just didn't feel like playing any more.

My penchant is for killing all enemies, I generally don't include
anything non-hostile like chickens or killable non-hostile NPCs. I
have tried to do a real kill all in Fallout 3, but my heart wasn't in
it and I quit fairly early, though that may be as much to do with
trying to do it with melee only as well.

Yeah, mods required. Like FO3 I assume most of the mods when I
came back that I used the first time no longer worked on the updated
game.

I did everything interesting in the game, so don't really have any desire
to go back. Some of the complete overhaul mods where it's like playing
a different game are tempting though. I really don't understand how
people play a game like this over and over. (Yeah I played DS3 over
and over, but there's significant difference between playing different
builds, and there's Co-op/PVP which is unpredictable. I also missed things
on all my playthroughs so had to do another a bunch of things.)

Same. I didn't bother with side quests. Same in Oblivion. Just no time and energy.

Anything non-hostile I may not have killed (Patches bit
it a couple times.) I probably killed every hostile mob if you
count across all my playthroughs. Maybe some rams
somewhere as those do go hostile if you get close. It's
possible I missed some of the lobsters in Lunaria. Also
Possible I missed some of the mausoleum guards, as those
all despawn when you bring the mausoleum down.
