Yesterday I noticed gaps in the cola article numbering from blocknews.

I contacted them and they said "Article numbers changed for headers",
but that doesn't account for missing posts.

For example, this D'Oliveiro post is missing from blocknews:

<us0ecp$24khf$2@dont-email.me>

It's on eternal-september, though.

Can other blocknews users confirm they're missing articles 2691902, 903,
904, 905 and 906 (among others)?

Thanks

I did check it.

UsenetMgr> cola retrieve <us0ecp$24khf$2@dont-email.me>

430 No such article (from all servers)

And that article - among others - doesn't download in Thunderbird (or
BetterBird).

If you don't use article numbers, how can you know if you're missing
articles?

I download using ranges of sequential article numbers.

I also can do that.

My system isn't a newsreader as such, though I can retrieve articles.
It's more like a download manager.

It's possible that Blocknews' feed is behind, so we wouldn't
have seen that article until now. (Or, they are trying
to fix their feed. Or any number of things.)

Pan can use multiple news servers, so it fills in the gaps.
Just checked my cache, and I see that pan retrieved that
article from ES.

I made a post to news.software.readers about Blocknews a day
or two ago. Opening a newsgroup after whatever change they
made results in an entire overview download of the group...
could they be trying to fill up quotas on block accounts? ;)

You need to trade your Blocknews with a lollipop.

Use Solani. It is run by first-world people.
