isn't working as it once did, allowing you to drag and drop an image
into the search engine. User agent options didn't seem to make any
difference.

Agreed. OSX 10.13 SM 2.53.17.1

When I drag the image into the search "box" on the "page" the browser
loads the image into the whole window instead.

Afaics, using SM 2.53.17.1, the Google Image search page is not rendering
the same as other browsers.
e.g. Current released versions of Firefox, Chrome and Edge all load the
Google Image Search page with two icons to the right of the search field
box - a microphone icon for 'Search by voice', and a camera type icon for
'Search by image'
- the latter(search by image) in Firefox, Chrome and Edge when selected
provides the 'drag an image here or upload file' option.
=> SM 2.53.17.1 unlike FF, Chrome, & Edge when loading the Google Image
search main page, does not show those two option(search for voice and image)
For FF, Chrome & Edge, when dragging a pic to the Google Image search
main page does the same as SM - loads the pic in a separate browser window.
- i.e. FF, Chrome, Edge require clicking the 'search by image' icon
which then provides, unlike SM(which lacks the image search option), the
drag and drop ability.

BTW I forgot to mention that I I am using an M1 iMac )S v. 13.6.
When I attempted to dropped the JPEG file into the Google image search
engine from my desktop, the file simply went back to it's location on
the desktop.

G is hiding a function that doesn't work in SM.

Let's enable JS for www.google.com, apis.google.com and gstatic.com. Set
the SM UA to match FF 91. Then the image search page shows the Search by
Image icon as described:
> Current released versions of Firefox, Chrome and Edge all load the Google Image Search page with two icons to the right of the search field box - a microphone icon for 'Search by voice', and a camera type icon for 'Search by image'
> - the latter(search by image) in Firefox, Chrome and Edge when selected provides the 'drag an image here or upload file' option.

But the following error is logged:

> TypeError: b.arrayBuffer is not a function[Learn More] m=ndPRBb,syef,pw70Gc,synv,L1AAkb,EVNhjf,sy7m,syeg,QIhFr,iFQyKf,vfuNJf,hc6Ubd,syxj,sy24b,ZaKEod:8:121

Dropping an image on the uploader widget just gives a spinning wait icon
that never resolves.

Thanks for testing additional parameters.

Still love SeaMonkey for its UI and simplicity. I like others, don't
mind flipping to another browser temporarily for a specific other
browser compatible reason.

This one, image search, is not a common need in any browser. It's been
some time since I wanted/needed to use Google Image(or any image search
site) to search on a pic.
Thanks to the op for posting the issue and allowing me to test and learn.

It may not be common but I use it for identifying flora and fauna in the

I'd have thought that was what smartphones are for, although not if the
fauna is drug dealers.

Good use for a specific need.

....and you have multiple other browser options to accomplish the task. I
only tested 3 different(FF, Edge, Chrome) and all were functional once
the image upload or drag/drop option was selected.

Your initial post which included this link
<https://www.google.com/imghp?hl=en&tab=wi&ogbl>
seemed to imply that loading that site and dragging an image previously
performed the search without a need to click the 'Search by image' icon.
While it is possible that was capable in the past.
- Having tested 3 different browsers, all requiring one to click or
touch on the 'search by image' icon...the need to do so has always been
the default method(where dragging an image without the using the search
image icon, just opens the pic in a new browser window/tab). If one
reverts to the original tab, that tab should now have the dragdrop feature.

Regardless, the point is that the drag-drop upload widget is broken in
SM 2.53.17[.1] and probably earlier versions.

Yes and yes.
Broken for SM and the widget is necessary to access the drag and drop
feature, not just drag and drop(in any browser) to the Google Image main
page.

Thanks.
