I tried posting this in rocksolid.nodes.help and from my end it does not
appear to have propagated.

When trying to connect to news.novabbs.org using SSL via Thunderbird the
connection fails. Connect also fails with telnet-ssl.

$ telnet-ssl news.novabbs.org 563
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

What should I do to get this working?

It is a fault at their server.

It seems that either the service is not running on IPv6 or a firewall
blocks it with TCP RST.
