I just had the chance to try it myself.

I had the same little activity indicator as in your video.

But..

M> does it work for you?

Yup.

https://kolico.ca/tmp/ccc2.jpg
https://kolico.ca/tmp/ccc3.jpg

It was just a matter of waiting for the activity indicator to
finish. Then, once in, the response and performance was
excellent. The aerial shots where loaded very fast.

Is there anyone here a Samsung smarttv owner? I'm wondering if
the built-in browser cooperates with the functionality of this

i'm not sure where our original remote is. we have a newer curved one that's about 4 years old and then an older one.

i'm sure it wouldn't function well. the built in browser is shit.

Hello MRO!

M> i'm sure it wouldn't function well. the built in browser is shit.
M> https://robotpoweredhome.com/internet-browser-on-samsung-tv/

Most of the CONS about the browser are:

[o] Java applications are not compatible.

[o] Flash video files are not supported.

[o] It cannot play certain HTML5-based audio/video content.

But sofar, most sites even YT (they are HTML5 since many years
ago now) work OK, so that article is outdated.

The first-time use of the browser seemed to have issues with
certain sites. But an update was available. After that, most
sites cooperated very well.

The browser is Tizen. The update seems to support HTML5 now.

The TV itself was a floor model and the user got it at half
price. It's a fairly badass 42" or something.

Another option might be to install a conventional browser and
operate that as an app.

Have them get an androidtv box if they want to use their television for more than a television.

you can get one on amazon with a gaming controller with keyboard and mouse built in, and a remote control for 40 bucks

The client is a bit of a luddite. Extra gear just confuses
him.

M> you can get one on amazon with a gaming controller with keyboard and mouse

One of the first things I had already done was connect a kb and
mouse. That made a world of difference for manipulating the tv
browser. The orig article mentioned how terrible the browser is
but it did not mention that the tv can also allow attaching kb
and mouse.

The client has never used a computer mouse! ..so, watching him
get acquainted with "left-click" "right-click" and controlling
scrolling is a bit strainful. I figure that maybe some kind of
computer game on the tv would help.

Depends, the software has seen updates... it's a fork of Chrome for
Android/Tizen.

You can use a USB keyboard/mouse device on the TVs as well, my mom uses
one for hers.

Hello MRO!

>> The client is a bit of a luddite. Extra gear just confuses
>> him.

M> he could do a lot with an androidtv box.
M> the tv browser is the wrong tool for the job.

Actually, the supplied browser is a good enuff intro to
accessing the internet. The tv can operate purely as just a
display for an actual pc connected to it, but the extra
equipment and operation would be a bit overwhelming for him at
this stage.

He also has a Samsung tablet that he doesn't like to use at
all.

When I get a chance, I will try to see if I can install a
Chrome app on it. But for now, the supplied browser seems
quite nice to use, actually.

I added a keyboard and mouse. The tv has suitable extra USB

Bummer!

What if you visit the root service landing page first:

[1] https://www.ontario.ca/page/crown-land

then..

[2] click on "Crown Land Use Policy Atlas"

then..

[3] click on "Use the Crown Land Use Policy Atlas"

https://www.lioapplications.lrc.gov.on.ca/CLUPA/

M> does it work for you?

I haven't had the chance to visit my friend/client to find out.
That's why I'm asking in advance if anyone else could test it.

How would i know? it says browser and i run it.
it's not like a computer where i can click an about box.

it says it's updated. it's a tad older but it's huge and has all the bells and whistles.

I don't even use the tv interface. i have a dell hooked up to it and we stream tv and movies on it.

YES, there is (at least on the one I was working with).

Mine has a triple-bar "Settings" icon at the very right, aka
"hamburger" icon. Clicking that reveals this:

https://susepaste.org/87163077

M> I don't even use the tv interface. i have a dell hooked up to it and we

That's pretty good and avoids any limitations and awkwardness
of an unknown browser. But honestly, I find the Tizen tv
browser to be quite very much like a regular browser on a pc.

You can force it to check for updates. My friend's tv is over
4 yrs old, and I did the update for him this year.

How old is your Samsung TV? If you already mentioned that in another post, perhaps I don't remember.. I have a Samsung smart TV that I bought in 2015, and I've read Samsung is no longer supporting that platform and are only supporting their 2016 and newer TVs. I don't want to replace that TV yet, so I bought a Roku streaming device to connect to it.

it's not mine, but i looked up the model number and there's a review on it in 2017. it is big, curved and has usb 3 ports.

my experience with samsung smart tvs is the samsung software sucks. my ex had one and it would update and screw up all the time. hers was older than this one and it would get regular updates for some reason and this was 2018.

Yeah, no point to carry on with a perceived tv update if you
already have a browsing solution with the pc attached.

Thx for testing it for me though.

I was looking for a simple large-screen internet solution for
use in my shop to demo certain websites and/or products, and
specifically that Crownland website.

If I could just mount a smarttv on the wall, and attach a
mouse/kb, I'd be all set. I wouldn't have room for an
additional pc nearby.
