I have been giving Win10 32 bit a real nice test.

Years ago, when dual core CPU's became available, I waited for the first
price drop, then purchased an Asus A8N-E mobo in 2006 and a dual core
2ghz cpu and 4 gigs of DDR-1

I keep it in my shop as a test machine and have hard drives with various
operating systems including Win2k and XP

Since I already had a DVD made, I installed Win10 32 bit version 1703
circa 2016

It ran well and first time I checked updates, one was installed and when
it rebooted 20H2 began downloading and installing.

While that was happening, I performed three simultaneous and large data
transfers and also downloaded and installed various software...with not
one single glitch.

Of note was that the Win2k and XP installations ran quite poorly. Both
froze when just copying one folder to a USB stick.

Have to say I'm pretty impressed.
Both with Win10 and with that old ASUS mobo.

Of note is that the drive is a standard SATA...I bet it would even run
faster with an SSD

32 bit CPUs can access 64GB of RAM, using PAE.

It is only the memory license which limits
Windows to using <4GB.

The gentleman here, hacked the memory license
on Vista, so that Vista was no longer limited
to 4GB in 32 bit mode. There is a picture here
of a 32-bit installation with "8GB free". Which
is the amount of RAM installed on his machine at
the time.

https://www.geoffchappell.com/notes/windows/license/memory.htm

And 32 bit code is handy for preventing stupid
applications (Firefox64) from using all the memory
in the computer when they leak. Due to the addressable
RAM limits of a 32 bit piece of code (typically
1.8GB with Photoshop32), the usage of 32-bit applications
exerts some control over RAM consumption, on OSes
without memory quota capability.

32 bit gives the operator an extra degree of freedom,
to achieve a desired result.

Paul

I do recall using PAE at one time.

For this machine with 4 gigs of RAM, if I really wanted to use it rather than just exleriment, I'd probably just go with an SSD
