Hi All,

I have been creating ISOs with uupdump from the
cumulative updates for W11. Everything seems to
go through like normal, but when I finally reboot,
I am back to the original. If I wipe and reinstall,
everything goes fine. What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks,
-T

Does your H/W meet the CPU and TPM spec? That sounds like the expected
behaviour ... you can do an "unsupported" install onto sub-spec H/W or a
supported upgrade on H/W that meets the spec.

My hardware is Redhat's qemu-kvm. It has a fake
TPM module.

And a full wipe and re-install works fine, so
all hardware requirements are met

How do you work that out? They've stated that a clean install will be
allowed (but not supported) even if the 8th gen CPU requirement is not
met, but an upgrade on 7th gen or earlier will not be allowed.

Ah Ha! That is probably why. I will switch CPU's.
Thank you!

Hi Andy,

Allowing a blank drive install on incompatible
hardware and them disallowing upgrade is really,
really STUPID.

It also means if I quote out a custom W11 machine
for a customer, all the parts better had better
have W111 compatible written all over them!

And there goes getting the cheap out going motherboard
for the cheap customer that does not need/want a
good computer

Thank you for the heads up!

You'll just have to choose the right mobo and other hardware(not just
UEFI, Secure Boot, and TPM).
With the new requirements for Win11, you will have to watch for retailers
dumping hardware not meeting Win11 specs but then that would still be your
job to quote a custom W11 device.

That is obvious.

The dumped mobo's could go well in W10 or Linux machines.
Depends on what issues they have with having to be Windows
updated all the time.

And I wonder as we get close to W10 being unsupported,
if M$ will relent somewhat. Also, most folks by then
will be on to a new computer anyway. Or an Apple.

Yes, with Win10 still sold as retail, but lesser to none over time on OEM
pre-built devices - older hardware not Win11 capable may find some uses
but only for so long.

I doubt W10 will be extended, MSFT learned their lesson on extending
support way back on XP just briefly on W7. For Enterprise busines W10
could go the route of expired no longer commercially supported o/s for
organizations(not public)via ESU(at premium cost increasing in each
subsquent year, if available, and only for 3 yrs after EOL).
