It can be a pain in the ass to restore data
to a Windows machine at times.

When I restore data back to a previously infected
Windows machine, I always use Linux. That way if
I missed the virus, it does not have a chance to
infect the backup. And it is just so much easier
to do that way!

I probably am too old to deal with smartphones. My six year old grandson
can navigate 20x faster than I can.

FWIW: My vacuum tube radio repairs have increased. I am not joking.

It's really funny when I have a tube radio and a computer on my bench at
the same time. My standing joke is that I don't get the parts mixed up...

but here is a good one:

I used a computer's "cmos beep" speaker to replace on in a transistor radio!

The way I got into computers was as Radio Design (RF)
engineer. Most of the designs were on thin film, so
I had to computer model everything: you can't tweak
a microcircuit. I was really good at it. But to do
so, I had to maintain the computers. Then the Cold
War ended and so did my job. So I because a computer
consultant.

And you can do some awesome stuff with tubes and
radios, especially transmitters.

If you ever get a chance to listen to a tube stereo,
it will blow you away. It is like being in the
auditorium with the performer.

Yeah. A friend of mine bugged the room his parents used when discussing
his allowance. I was not quite than sneaky.

You'd be amazed how much smack your parents say about
you behind your back!

Whenever my parents got on the phone, I could
tell that the adult at the other end was saying
what a nice young man I was. The tip off was
my mother saying "Who?" over and over. She had
a tiny point.

Never figured out how to bug the phone. I had
one of those suction cup mikes for the side of
the phone to record the conversation. Didn't
work for s---.

I still recall the time I stayed overnight at my grandmother's house and
there was an extension phone in my room. When I carefully and quietly
picked it up to listen in, my grandmother periodically told me to hang
it up. I was being extra quiet and never knew how she knew until years
later when I thought about it: I had the TV on !

Some spy I'd be.

Chuckle!

I'd pick up the handset whilst holding down the
hook and remove the microphone. Did not take
me too long to discover that the speaker also
acted as a mic. Busted!

not unless you loudly yell into it, it doesn't.

you were busted because when another extension is picked up, there is
an audible click with a slight drop in volume to the other parties.

Line wrap... sorry. I lost an add on in Thunderbird to disable line wrap
after mozilla changed the api or something. Now the new version of the
plugin needs very invasive permissions to do just a simple thing.

But of course, I don't remember it either. Who do you think I am, a
wizard? :-D

I have a text file with recipes to copy-paste.

Or, if I have used it before in that computer, I type ctrl-r at the bash
prompt, then "lsblk" and I get to see and use the same concoction as
used a week before.

Possibly, you can use it also in Windows, that linux in windows thing.
I'd be curious to know, if somebody can try ;-)

The /dev is not exposed in the Windows 10 Bash Shell.

Instead, you have access to mounted file systems. Spelling
is case-sensitive, and since Windows uses Downloads, then
a capital D is required here.

/mnt/c/users/carlos/Downloads

That's the layer you have access. If you want F: , it is

/mnt/f

For example

cd /mnt/f
ls

You cannot do anything to /dev in Win10 bash shell.
This will fail.

sudo dd if=/dev/sda of=myMBR bs=512 count=1

You could copy a file with "dd" if you want. As
this example is not at the /dev level.

cd /mnt/c/Temp

dd if=recipe.txt of=flavors_of_spain.txt

Oh. That's a pity. My command will fail, then.

Had one of those as a kid. Did not work
so well. Gallium and a cat's whisker. I
think they were punking me about the cat.

I worked with tube flip flops in the Air Force.

You ever work with single side band band?
