In kde plasma 'Systemsettings' I use icon view, opening 'Appearance' I
see two 'Global Theme' modules and it's been giving me problems. I've
checked 6 installs all have the bug, all have duplicate global theme
modules.

I have Slackware64-current multilib (1 week old) running KDE/Plasma5.
Just the one 'Global Theme' here.

Are up updated to the recent 'Fri Jul 9 03:14:33 UTC 2021' KDE5 upgrades?

Just upgraded to the 'Fri Jul 9 03:14:33 UTC 2021' ChangeLog. Looking
at System Settings (Icon View) -> Appearance and I have two 'Global
Theme' module. List view (or side bar) displays properly.

Interesting...

I cleared out all the user setting in $HOME, and the icon view 'Global
Theme' is still doubled.

Here in Manjaro, the icon view for the System Settings no longer lists
anything at all under the Appearance section. The sidebar view lists
everything as it should.

Apparently there was an upstream bug with regard to that section of the
System Settings. And for that matter, I also always advise against
using global themes, and in favor of theming the individual components,
i.e.:

- Plasma theme
- application theme (by way of the Kvantum Manager)
- window decorations
- mouse pointers
- fonts and font sizes
- wallpaper

All too often, global themes tend to screw things up, and especially if
they were designed for a Plasma version from before 5.13, which was
when some significant changes in the internal layout of the
configuration files were introduced, as well as changes to the code for
better interoperability with GTK/GNOME apps.

My temp solution is to use the side bar, it stops the other modules from
screwing up. With each upgrade I test the icon view for change. No
change yet. :)

If you find a "bug" don't tell us, tell Slackware. They want feedback, especially at this time. They can't fix things they don't know about.

If you actually read the changelog, it's routine to see something updated, then a few days later a bug fix, sometimes with a thanks. There are an awful lot of tiny little things. 14.2 was missing something, something like a parallel port descriptor, and somehow it wasn't noticed until after the release. A tiny little thing, and just an oversight.

At the same time, what may be a bug may be fixed very soon, because it's been noticed, and fixed.

FWIW, the OP can email info@slackware.com, or the BDFL volkerdi@slackware.com

And, since we're getting close to RC1[1] of 15.0, now is the best time to let
Pat know of problems, omissions, or suggestions for Slackware-Current.

[1] From the Slackware-Current changelog:
Sat Jul 17 17:55:10 UTC 2021
Happy 28th birthday, Slackware! :-)
a/aaa_base-15.0-x86_64-1.txz: Upgraded.
Bump version numbers in /etc/os-release and /etc/slackware-version.
Not quite ready to freeze things for a release candidate, but getting there.
Initial email to root still needs a refresh.

I fixed it here, by not using the the icon view. It is a plasma5 bug
that kde should to fix and kde has gone corporate, not much help there.

The legacy nvidia problems don't seem to be a problem if using the
breeze splash or any other installed splash or no splash, it's my
downloaded splash that's causing the problem with some bits not working
while using the legacy driver. Nvidia says their not going fix the
driver any more and I have no idea what slackware or any other distro
can do anything about it. I'm a old linux tester, was testing debian
until systemd and I've only been back testing slackware the last 4 yrs.
and I don't trust my judgement about contacting Patrick, I may interrupt
his dinner.

I would like to see 14.2 with kde4 maintained for a longtime, I like a
stable system and I have fond memories of kde4, I like using 'yawp'
weather widget and kdf and it was the kde4 release party where I met
Patrick and he installed version 13.* on my laptop and we hung out for
awhile. I was testing mepis, debian and kde at that time, working
directly with the developers while testing and helping get bugs fixed.

14.2 is missing ffmpeg, I started testing that yesterday, it seems their
maybe security problems with ffmpeg, I'm going to try as many versions
as I can, but the kde desktop sharing with the internet seems to not
help security at all.

Maybe someone can point out my post to Patrick if they feel my post
worthy. See my reply to Michael.

It is not a Slackware bug, the latest KDE neon has it too.
But KDE neon uses the sidebar view as default, I never would have
noticed if it weren't for your post.

I tested 5 versions of ffmpeg, 2 did not work and 3 did, the less
intrusive was "ffmpeg-3.2.4-x86_64-2_slonly.txz". I tested on 2
different systems. The most intrusive was ffmpeg-3.4.6-x86_64-1alien.txz.

It fixes internet video not playing while using 14.2.

Yes, it's a plasma bug, I did say that in another post somewhere. Yes,
other distros got the bug too and one I know of fixed it by removing the
bug.

Yes, using the side bar is a way to workaround the bug.
